Program

WTYDF provides on sight lesson plans that coincide with our soccer programs.  The organization uses age-specific lessons and translates them into everyday experiences.  Children are divided into groups while mentors conduct a 20-minute lesson at the beginning of every soccer session.  These lessons include Math, Science, and English.

The coaches in the Chester City United program act as role models; giving children support on and off the soccer field.

WTYDF actively seeks children and families that would benefit from their resources while promoting other academic programs in the city to our participants in order to ensure that they are receiving the best possible support possible.

Chester City United

WTYDF’s soccer program is called Chester City United. This is a year-round program for all ages.  It utilizes this program to educate participants about soccer, nutrition and healthy decisions, and personal development.

The intramural league occurs in the spring and the fall.  They are both eight-weeks long.  Participants are separated by age and then put on co-ed teams.  Each team practices twice a week and has games on Saturdays.  The objectives are to not only teach the participants the basic rules and positions of soccer but also to help develop social skills and behavioral capacities for life outside of soccer.

The summer program, consists of the annual William Trippley soccer camp.  The camp has traditionally been held at Widener University and is run by staff from the Widener Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams, as well as Chester City United members.  The camp teaches children how to follow directions, teamwork, listening skills, and learning skills in a fun and friendly environment.

The winter program is for children between the ages of 3-8 years old.  They play small-sided soccer games once a week.  This opportunity is used to introduce new participants to the game of soccer and to Chester City United.  It is a safe and friendly learning environment to engage the community.

The travel program is for the players that want to take the soccer portion of WTYDF to a different level.  Whereas the previous programs only play other children in Chester, the travel teams visit areas outside of the city to play. This is also the only program that is independent of our academic programs.
